Monogatari (物語) is the alias of Balthazar Bodin, a multi-instrumentist and producer based in Nantes (Fr).

Taking its name from the Japanese storytelling tradition, Monogatari envisions music as an architecture of details—where every note and every word is a stone laid to build a universe greater than oneself.

Trained in jazz at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Paris, Monogatari hybrids the rigor of a trombonist with the audacity of sound design. On stage, he stands alone with his machines, brass instruments, and voice to bring an organic yet modern pop to life: a space where Coltrane-esque improvisations collide with the synthetic textures of SOPHIE and the candor of Videoclub’s lyrics.

In 2025, he released his debut album, Introvert’s coming to the party, an autobiographical gesture exploring the collision between inner withdrawal and social explosion. Monogatari has also produced for film, theater, and radio, and toured in 2022 with the Orchestre National de Jazz (ONJ).
