Balthazar Bodin is a French musician and composer born on June 18, 2000.
He started playing trombone at the age of 7 and at 12 formed his first jazz band.
At the age of 18, he obtained his classical and jazz trombone prizes at the Conservatoire de Nantes. He was then admitted the same year to the Conservatoire National Superieur de Musique et de Danse de Paris (CNSMDP).
For three consecutive years from 2019, he plays in the Orchestre National de Jazz des Jeunes (France), first under the direction of François Jeanneau, then Franck Tortiller and finally Denis Badault in 2021/22.
Balthazar likes composing/producing as much as playing music. Composer of the SOLSTICE project, in 2019, he releases his first album in quartet, totally self-produced. He also signed the soundtrack of a documentary film, that of a live show, the credits of a radio show, several pieces for BigBand as well as music for the sound identity of the Youtube channel « Viens on sème ».
In 2019, he won the « Michel Lucas » prize. In 2020, he won the 3rd prize at the « Online Trombone Competition » in the jazz category, it is an international trombone competition with no age or level limit. In 2021, he won the 1st prize at the IMKA (International Music Competition) in the trombone category. In 2022, he was a finalist in the ITF international competition in the JJ.Johnson and Carl Fontana categories. That same year he validated his degree at the CNSMDP with honors. He goes on tour in Romania and Serbia with the National Jazz Orchestra (France) and really starts to live from his music.
In November 2022 he won the 2nd prize at the UNT International Trombone Competition (Texas). In 2023 he applied to the Juilliard School of Music, the Manhattan School of Music and the Berklee College of Music (Boston). He reached the finals at all three and was admitted to the Manhattan School with a $43,000 scholarship. However, he decided not to go, preferring to consolidate his network and his projects in France.
